چکیده

Some real systems usually drive themselves into a critical state. These systems are said to be in a state of selforganized criticality [1]. The theory of self-organized criticality aims to describe interactive, dissipative and self sustaining systems with many degrees of freedom. Hence it complements the chaos concept. These systems are characterized by power law statistics. Self-organized criticality has applications in many fields, e.g., sand piles [2, 3], earthquake dynamics [4, 5], dynamics of biological populations [6], interacting economic systems [7], etc. The statistics of the systems which display self-organized criticality are characterized by power law distributions [1] of the form

Avalanches in one-dimensional piles with different types of bases.

We perform a systematic experimental study of the influence of the type of base on the avalanche dynamics of slowly driven 1D ball piles. The control of base details allows us to explore a wide spectrum of pile structures and dynamics. The scaling properties of the observed avalanche distributions suggest that self-organized critical behavior is approached as the "base-induced" disorder at the ...

Structure of Stable Sand Piles Model

In this paper we study a variant of the Sand Piles Model, where the evolution rule consists of the falling down of one grain to a random column and an avalanche to reach a stable configuration. We prove that the infinite set of all stable configurations have a lattice structure which is a sublattice of Young lattice. At the end, based on a discussion about avalanches, we construct a generating ...

APPLICATIONS OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IN STABILITY INDEX AND CRITICAL LENGTH IN AVALANCHE DYNAMICS

In this study, Stability analysis of snow slab which is under detonation has developed in the present model. The model has been studied by using the basic concepts of non-detonation model and concepts of underwater explosions with appropriate modifications to the present studies. The studies have also been extended to account the effect of critical length variations at the time of detonation an...

Centrifuge modelling of long piles subjected to lateral loading with high load eccentricity in sand

In this research paper, five centrifuge lateral loading tests of long piles with a considerable load eccentricity were carried out in the sand to investigate the impacts of the load eccentricity and pile length changes on the lateral behavior of a flexible pile beside the determination of experimental p-y curves. Comparing experimental test results with the recommended API (American Petroleum ...

Avalanches in a Numerically Simulated Sand Dune Dynamics

Avalanches of various sizes occur due to instability during sand dune dynamics. A physically viable equation to model sand dune dynamics is a first order nonlinear difference equation. To visualize the size distribution of avalanches, sand dune dynamics has been numerically simulated by changing the strength of nonlinearity parameter (λ) that shows different impacts on dune dynamics. An equatio...
